Ranch Description and what we feed

Picture
This is our "Feed Lot"
At our roots we are a Grass-fed and Grass-finished Cattle Company. We keep Hogs on free-range and use Chickens for manure spreading, pasture sanitization and nitrogen distrubution.

Our products include USDA approved, by the pound grass-fed and finished beef (important distinction here, so pay attention). We offer humanely treated, antibiotic-free true free-range pork and truly free-range chicken.

We have hogs on pasture and many of our animals (pork and chicken) are fed milk by-products, which result in a deep, rich flavor that generations before us enjoyed. We use MIG (management Intensive Grazing) methods to feed our beeves (both milk and meat cattle) the freshest, rapidly growing green grass possible, with minimal impact to the land and surrounding environment.

We are deeply committed to the principles of small farming and sustainable agriculture. We have estimated that it takes only 1.78 calories of petroleum, to produce a single calorie of beef or pork from our ranch - far less than the 9 calories needed in the conventional, corn-fed industrial system. Our members are encouraged to become involved in their local agriculture community.

We are not certified organic - but feed organic feeds and use no pesticides in our grazing areas. (here is an example of our feed bag labels)

Here is an example of our feed for our Hogs (pigs are a mono-gastric, like humans). They can and should eat things other than grass. Beef on the other hand, should eat grass exclusively (no corn, soy, wheat, potatoes, etc).

Here is the clincher - this stuff is very expensive! We pay close to 50 cents per pound for Organic, Non-GMO, Non-Soy feed (yes, people feed hogs Soy!).

Now, 50 cents may not seem like much, but when you consider that the "competition" pays as little as 12 cents for corn and soy enhanced feed - you can see that our cost to raise hogs the right way is nearly 75% higher. And that is just the raw material feed cost.

So, if you see Pastured Pork for sale, ask what it is fed. It might blow your mind that someone goes to all the trouble to free-range a hog and then feed them GMOs...
